Precious Reminders...

This handsome dude has been asking lately to wear my sunglasses when we are headed to drop him off at my Mom's while I work because he can't stand the sun in his eyes.  He says, "My eyes, my eyes! Sun shining in them."  He then asks for my glasses and when done with them because we arrive at MeMe's he asks me to put them back where I got them so he has them for the next day.

He also has a thing for not liking to be "breathed on"and by that I mean if he thinks at all he might feel your breath on him he says, "Don't breath on me!" I get this.  I don't like it either.  However, he takes it to a whole other level...lol.

He is also crawling into our bed a lot at night.  Usually averaging 2-3 times a week.  My husband hates it and I secretly love it.  My oldest wouldn't come into bed with us if I begged him.  Even when he was sick he  could not be persuaded.  He likes his space. However, my youngest, he says he is "scared" and ends up in our bed a few times a week.

Another thing he does is that we find him asleep in various places.  He actually fell asleep during his haircut a few weeks ago!

If I get up at night (I usually wake to anything) I am likely to find him asleep in the chair in his room, behind his closed bedroom door, half in his room half in the hall, half in our room half in the hall, squished between the wall and my husband's side of the bed, asleep on the pile of unfolded laundry on my side of the bed, and last night, asleep in the middle of the hall.  He isn't sleep walking.  I asked him one night why he was asleep squished up against his door.  He told me he was playing tractors.  He literally wakes and either goes looking for us or for something to do and then gets tired again and rather than go back to bed, he goes to sleep where he is.  It is the funniest thing.

He is our little daredevil.  He has a mind of his own.  He is confident.  He is strong-willed.  He is even tempered but when he is mad he gets mad.  He also has has completely sweet and caring moments.  He is quick to say sorry and quick to ask you if you are okay.  The other day at a Doctor appointment for me as I left him in the waiting room with my husband he yelled across the waiting room, "You okay Mommy?  Doctor help you?  You be fine?  You need anything?"  So sweet.  Quick to ask me if I am happy, "You happy Mommy?" Melt my heart.  Sensitive to if he feels you are mad at him.  His little lip quivers and he sheds silent tears and runs off...he likes to appear tough and composed at all times.

He struggles with the potty still.  He goes but due to his GI issues in the past I think he developed a phobia of going more than pee on the potty and we often struggle with withholding with him.  It is literally a fight to get him to go.  However, last night we saw hope when he went with very little fight.  We saw a glimmer of light.  Otherwise, he is 100% potty trained.  He never wets the bed anymore and never wears a diaper or pull-up.

He loves my gluten free banana bread. He loves chocolate covered raisins.  He is a meat and potatoes kind of guy.  He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  He has the most infectious smile.  He loves to sing and dance and knows the words to many songs.  You can't help but laugh when he laughs too.  He loves to snuggle.

No particular reason for this post other than that I felt the need in the craziness of our life to capture a few things about Handsome 2 I didn't want to forget.  Things that make us smile, laugh and scratch our head sometimes.  Things that make him so special.

Love ya buddy!

keep your head up, dear mom.

keep your head up, dear mom.

This is what I needed to hear lately.  Life in our house is just a crazy jumbled mess right now.

Life goes on and I am doing my best to keep my head up but it is hard right now.  It seems like so much is heavy on our shoulders right now.

Right now, life is hard.

I just want to curl up in my bed, watch the rain we have had recently, cry, and hide.

But, that is the beauty of children.  They don't let you do that.  They bring normalcy to your life whether you want it or not.

Yesterday I had to take my oldest to OT and get groceries.  I didn't want to because I wanted to just hide and let the world pass me by but you know what?  In those hours of doing the OT and groceries I didn't think about all my worries (well not that much) and I actually enjoyed the normalcy of the routine.   I came back feeling just a little better.

Children don't let you wallow in your sorrows.  They don't let you hide in your room and shut the world out.  And you know what else?  They give the best hugs and kisses and they feel your pain enough to know you need a little extra loving and they give it to you.

I am so thankful for my children.  They are getting me through right now.  They are who help me to "keep my head up" in these difficult times.
