Ugh.

I am sick. I started what I thought was a basic cold two weeks ago and immediately took the day off to rest thinking I would be smart and get my rest and tackle it before it got worse. (Normally I would have just pushed through and ended up getting really sick and miserable.) I felt "not right" for a few days but come last Monday I felt great and was so proud of myself for doing it the right way this time and keeping it from getting progressively worse. Well, Tuesday rolled around and I didn't feel great and come Friday I was a hurting girl. Saturday I laid around all day and today I am up and about again but at half the speed (if that) both mentally and physically. Grocery shopping was torture today and I even skipped spinning class Saturday and church today so that tells you how sick I have been. The cold has been so bad that I go from somewhat able to breath, to not at all, to able to breath in one nostril and then it switches to the other. My breathing got so difficult at one point I had a few nights that I got very little sleep because I woke myself with sleep apnea because my throat was so swollen that when I relaxed enough in my sleep my airway closed off since I can't breath through my nose. My husband says I snored last night, which I never do. I can't believe I have had such a bad cold that has hit me as hard as it has and hung on so long. I have even resorted to taking DayQuil and for those of you who know me, you know that is a big deal because I often refuse any meds for anything. What makes me the most angry though? I actually took a sick day hoping to prevent all of this! So, next time I feel an illness coming on I am going to say screw it and go to work because it obviously doesn't help to take care of yourself early...no matter what you do it inevitably gets worse! Now...back to my tissues, oj, and DayQuil. *Sigh*

A Blessing and a Curse

So, as you may have gathered from the wedding photos I have posted I had an amazing photographer. (Anyone needing one in the New England area, I can definately give you a great recommendation.) He was professional, easy to work with, and did an amazing job! Here in lies the problem. I have over 700 photos to choose from and a book he puts together for you in which 100 photos at the most (preferrably less for an optimal book) is recommended. I could request more pages at a price but why make the book go on forever? Plus, I get to keep all 700+ photos because he sent me them on an external hard drive and CD. He also sent the rights to them so I can do with them as I please. You would think that would make choosing the book easy knowing that I still have the ones I didn't choose at my disposal but it doesn't. I have spent months literally trying to narrow the photos down and I now have it down to 125 and it is getting so hard to cut them out. I get to a point I feel like I just start chopping some out without thinking and I am afraid I am no longer thinking my choices through. Yeah, I know, I am whining about a good predicament to be in. However, sometimes you just need to whine regardless. Thanks to all of you who acted as my sounding board for this post :)

Spinning

This is a picture of my newest enemy. Well, I guess I can't call it my enemy because it is actually helping me. However, it sure worked me to the bone on my first ride (and I mean that literally!)

My first ride on it gave me a good workout and my quads were definately fatigued but most of all, my sitting bones are still sore when I move just right! I was going to try to stick it out and see if I toughen up but I fear I may still have sore bones come my next ride so I am thinking about seriously getting a pair of padded bike shorts as was first suggested to me.

So what am I talking about you may still be asking? Well wonder no longer, I am talking about a spinning class. I heard of this a few years ago when a friend of mine came home for a visit and had lost a lot of weight. She said she had taken a spinning class and explained it was a class where you rode stationary bikes as you increased speed, resistance, etc. Basically, it sounded boring to me (as it may be to you right now.) I heard it was offered at the YMCA now and they had a Saturday class. It seemed like it was calling my name as I had been running in the warmer months but slacked off big time with the cold weather and my parents' treatmill recently was out of commission so I was looking for some cardio again. Then I saw a girl I knew from town and she had lost a lot of weight and guess what she too had been doing...a spinning class! Well, I asked around town and several people said, "It is so hard" and "it will kick your butt...good luck!" So, I admit, I was nervous. However, I am often under the philosophy that I must try something for myself before dismissing it. So, I bravely went this Saturday to my spinning class all alone as several friends told me, "Let me know how you make out" but none offered to go with me....instead, I was the guinea pig. I admit, I was nervous and when I first sat on the bike, my butt already hurt so how I would handle an hour I had no idea. Then, as the class started my muscles started to ache and I wondered again how I would make it the whole hour but then something happened. I stopped trying to compete with the others in the class (justifying to myself that they probably had done this before) and I found my pace and my resistance. I found my groove. The instructor was great, the class was a good workout, and besides my sore bones from the bike seat, I actually feel pretty good! The cardio workout gave me that feeling I love when I run. I will definately be back there next Saturday and I have even contemplated taking another spinning class on a different day of the week so I can go twice. First though, I am going to look for those padded bike shorts :)

Happy New Year!

So, in ringing in the new year I found myself saddened. I often don't find the new year a celebration but more sad to watch the ball drop (I was actually able to stay awake to see it this year) and see the clock change to midnight and thus 2008. For some reason instead of looking to what a new year may hold I found myself sad at what has come and gone. Hence, the reason for another wedding picture being posted (aside from the fact that I have wanted to post it as the photographer just made this one and it is my absolute favorite he took of me.)

The months following my wedding were so crazy with all the holidays that I think with the passing of the year I was married in it finally hit me that it is over. It sure was stressful planning it and I wouldn't plan another one if you paid me (well, maybe if you paid me) but I enjoyed my wedding so much I kind of miss the actual day. Tony and I were so happy, it was so much fun, everything went perfect, and it really was THE perfect day. I find myself finally getting the chance to work on putting together the album the photographer will do for us and wanting the day back. Looking at the pictures just aren't the same. I guess these are those post wedding blues all bride's talked about. It just took me the passing of the year I was married to finally feel it!
