Mother's Day 2013

Mother's Day was uneventful but fun.  I took my Mother and my oldest out to breakfast, which turned into brunch since we waited 2 hours (yes you heard that right) to get our food.  Who knew pancakes took that long to cook!).  It gave us time to hang out but I did miss church because of it :(  The boys gave me flowers the day before they picked in MeMe's garden and a gift card for a massage (bliss!) and on Mother's Day Handsome 1 presented me with the things he picked out with Dada on their shopping trip the night before (lol.)  He picked me out a planter, a few plants and a plastic cardinal wind chime :)  I love them all.  Mother's Day is so special to me because I LOVE what they come up with for me.  Handsome 1 wished me Happy Mother's Day several times and then turned and wished it to my husband...lol.  Love it!  I had a few hours to myself while the boys all went to visit my in-laws but sadly I did not use it to relax, I used it to clean!  It is great what you can get done without anyone around :)  I hope you all had a wonderful day too.

 

Party Anyone?

The boys have this thing they like to do primarily in Handsome 2's room for some reason and they call it a "party". It often involves LOUD music (Handsome 1's threshold is often higher than Handsome 2's so often you hear Handsome 2 say, "too loud!"), singing and dancing and some sort of mess. The door always gets closed and if I enter, I am quickly ushered out :) Here is what the results of one party was recently...that is pretty much the contents of Handsome 2's bed and toy shelf...lol. I love these boys.

Visiting the Elephants

In April we went with another family and visited an elephant rescue facility.  They take in elephants that have been abused or were circus performers, etc. and let them live out there last years of life in luxury.  They are completely not for profit so they rely solely on donations and allow the public to visit and hopefully make a donation.  It is a wonderful program.  A great chance to see the animals up close and learn a lot about them.  The boys LOVED it and I can't believe how much Handsome 2 loved it considering how young he was.  We all enjoyed this visit.

Boys and Beaches

As soon as the weather got a little warmer we headed to the beach.  The boys just love it there and we are lucky to live so close to one. 

Rock throwing is a must for Handsome 2....look at his form in the photo above :)  And the bigger the rock is to throw, the better.  He even tried to pull some out of the mud that were pretty buried...lol. 

 

Handsome 1 on the other hand enjoys collecting things such as rocks, and seaweed was added to this beach day.  Handsome 1 had two buckets, one for rocks and one for seaweed.  It was fun helping him find "just the right rocks" to add to the collection. 

I feel so blessed to have a work schedule that now allows me to have some of these special time with my boys.  We were also very lucky to have Dada join us after he was out of work.  At one point I turned to my husband and said, "Look at how much fun they are having with just some time at a beach.  It really is the little things."  It just struck me how the simplest things could make them so happy.  In a time when technology is so big in our lives and playing outside is almost a thing of the past it seems, it was so great to see my sons enjoying what I did growing up....basic fun that they created with their own hands while enjoying nature.  Love it!

It was a great day and I hope to have many more just like it.

Color Me Rad 5k

This will be how I will look.  I have decided to participate in my first official 5k.  I have done them before for Crohns and Colitis for my brother.  However, I have never actually done a "race".  Thankfully this is an untimed one and you can walk it. This is great since I am sure I will be doing more walking than running :)  However, I am so excited to participate.  If there was ever a race I would do, this is one of them.  It looks like such a blast!  I can't wait!
